Royal Prince Alfred Hospital North-West Precinct
The NSW Government in partnership with Sydney Local Health District, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney will spend $67m redeveloping the North West Precinct on Missenden Road, Camperdown.
Older buildings have been demolished, making way for a new, purpose built Missenden Mental Health Unit.
Mental Health Unit (MMHU) and a range of ambulatory care units at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The project budget allows for a full build of the facility and fitout of 53 beds for the MMHU only. Additional funding will allow the full fitout of 73 beds for the MMHU and the ambulatory care units.
The building comprises six levels of accommodation in addition to a part basement level carpark and rooftop plant. The building has three significant street addresses and the design solution offers a common internal plaza that links each address. The overall configuration of the building is considered in four zones: clinical spaces, office accommodation, public circulation zones and plant areas. The mental health accommodation is provided at the highest levels of the building to maximise aspect and access to natural light for patients. The ambulatory care units are provided at the lower levels.
Silver Thomas Hanley provided Health Architecture and Planning services through the Functional Briefing, Concept Design, Schematic Design and Design Finalisation stages. STH were also responsible for delivery of the interiors through to completion.
This project is in collaboration with peckvonhartel architects and is currently under construction on an accelerated programme. Construction is due to be completed by the end of 2014.
New Age Veneers, Navurban The Oaks and Oakdale have been used to add a touch of warmth in hall ways, around the elevators, in waiting rooms, common patient areas. A few brighter colours have been integrated with the Navurban, for a pop of colour.
